I only made it through half of the "Color Atlas of Tropical Medicine & Parasitology" before taking a little break. I just felt so badly for the infected children and well, the rectal prolapse photos didn't look like much fun.
I didn't know that parasitic infections cause elephantiasis (severe swelling) because they block the lymphatic system. Most of the photos are of severe swelling of the legs, arms and genitals, and I didn't see any of the neck or torso where I'd also expect severe swelling (Peyer's patches, spleen, thoracic duct). I wonder why that is?
